MayLou & Dave Cuming and their extended families have been in Crossfield and the area since the early 1900’s.
Dave’s family were area farmers, but his grandfather and a partner had a business on Railway St. where the old CIBC building sits today. MaryLou’s father, grandfather and great grandfather all had businesses at one time or another on Railway St. in Crossfield. Both of their families had members who fought in either the first or second great wars.
MaryLou’s grandmother, Jean, was the Town Secretary for several decades. MaryLou and Dave bother started school in the one room school that is now the preschool. Later MaryLou taught in the Crossfield Elementary School for 34 years. When MaryLou’s mother passed away her husband Bob Collier established a scholarship for the graduates from WG Murdoch. This scholarship was administered my MaryLou and her siblings. Over many years the “{Betty Collier Memorial Scholarship” provided first year tuition to many deserving students. More that 45 students received the scholarhip.
Now retired, MaryLou & Dave are still active in the Crossfield community and have a small horse ranch SW of Crossfield.
